Video Sound Album Review

Indie darlings The Waking Eyes have hit the big time with their first major-label debut. Like any self-respecting garage rock band, they take it to every track, with no breaks for sissy ballads. Driven by jangly guitars and catchy riffs — especially on “Waiting” and “Headlights” — their music evokes memories of good ’90s post-punk combined with the garage-rock grittiness that The Strokes can’t capture. The album closes with the bluesy “If You Know Why,” wrapping up 11 tracks of beer-swigging, partying, fast-driving attitude. Oh, and the chorus from “Watch Your Money” will be in your head for days.
